2.2L Diesel

CAUTION:

PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE FOLLOWING POINTS WHEN REMOVING FUEL INJECTORS:

  • Injectors MUST be removed only using the special tools provided for this purpose.
  • Injectors MUST NOT be disassembled.
  • Before cleaning injector recesses, seal all injector holes in the injector recesses with a pin.
  • Clean all injector recesses in the cylinder head with a nonwoven cloth and then a cylinder brush.
  • Carefully clean sealing surfaces of injector recesses with the round brush. DO NOT us a power brush.
  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the engine cover. Refer to the appropriate service information article. .

  3. Disconnect the fuel injectors wire harness connectors (3).
  4. Remove the bolts (2) and position aside the fuel injector wire harness (1).

  5. Remove the bolts (2) securing the engine oil vapor recovery pipe (1) to the cylinder head cover and position aside.

  6. Unlock the retaining clips and remove the fuel return lines (1) from the fuel injectors (2).

    NOTE:

    The fuel rail to fuel injector fuel tubes must be replaced if removed.

  7. Unscrew the union nuts (1 and 3) and the discard high pressure fuel tubes (2).

    CAUTION:

    Prior to removing the fuel injectors, use compressed air to remove any accumulated dirt and debris. If dirt and debris enter the engine, internal engine damage may result.

  8. Using compressed air, remove any accumulated dirt and debris from around the fuel injectors.
    NOTE:

    Record the location of each fuel injector removed so it can be installed in its original location.

  9. Remove the nut (1) the fuel injector retaining clamp (2) and remove the fuel injector (3).

  10. If the fuel injector can't be removed by hand then use the (special tool #10495, Remover, Fuel Injector) (2) with (special tool #C-3752, Slide Hammers) and install it on the fuel injector (1) and remove the fuel injector.
