Before working on an open fuel system, eliminate any source of sparks or open flames near the work area, and do not smoke. Wash diesel fuel off skin as soon as possible to avoid the risk of poisoning from inhaling and swallowing fuel. Do not allow diesel fuel to come in contact with eyes, otherwise, severe injury can result from contact with fuel. Pour fuels only into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing whenever possible to avoid injury.
- Make sure the fuel rail opening is clean of debris.
- Lubricate the O-ring seal (1) with clean diesel fuel.
- Install the fuel pressure regulator (1) and tighten finger tight:
- Using the (special tool #VM.10491, Wrench, Fuel Pressure Regulator), tighten the fuel pressure regulator to 60 N.m (44 ft. lbs.).
- Loosen 90°.
- Tighten to 85 N.m (63 ft. lbs.).
- Connect the fuel pressure solenoid (2) wire harness connector.
- Install the engine cover. Refer to the appropriate service information article. .
- Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector to the negative battery cable.
