A common fuel rail (2) (also known as a manifold) is secured by two bolts to the cylinder head cover on the intake manifold side. The fuel rail is a metal casting with machined ports. A supply port (4) connects the fuel rail to the high pressure fuel circuit through a single tube and fitting from the outlet side of the fuel injection pump. An outlet port connects to each of the fuel injectors through a high pressure fuel tubes and fitting. The fuel rail also has a fuel pressure sensor (3) and a fuel pressure regulator/solenoid (1). The fuel rail also has a fuel return line port (5). The fuel rail cannot be adjusted or repaired. If damaged or ineffective, it must be replaced.
