Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR HVAC MODULE DTCS
- With the scan tool, read HVAC Module DTCs.
Are there any HVAC Module DTCs present?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate HVAC Module DTC diagnostic procedure. Refer to HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING (ATC) DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX .
- Perform the HVAC VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to HVAC VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 2
- With the scan tool, read HVAC Module DTCs.
- CHECK THE (C233) DRIVER BLEND DOOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE NOTE:
On vehicles that have dual zone control, only the Left Blend Door is used in the PCM diagnostic. Focus the diagnostics on the Main/Left Blend Door Actuator.
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the HVAC Module C1 harness connector.
- Disconnect the Driver Blend Door Actuator harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Measure the voltage on the (C233) Driver Blend Door Signal circuit at the Driver Blend Door Actuator harness connector.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (C233) Driver Blend Door Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the HVAC VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to HVAC VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 3
- CHECK THE (C233) DRIVER BLEND DOOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Measure the resistance of the (C233) Driver Blend Door Signal circuit between the Driver Blend Door Actuator harness connector and the HVAC Module C1 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Repair the (C233) Driver Blend Door Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the HVAC VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to HVAC VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (C333) ACTUATOR RETURN SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Measure the resistance of the (C333) Actuator Return Signal circuit between the Driver Blend Door Actuator harness connector and the HVAC Module C1 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Repair the (C333) Actuator Return Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the HVAC VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to HVAC VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK FOR THE (C233) DRIVER BLEND DOOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO THE (C26) 5-VOLT REFERENCE CIRCUIT
- Check for continuity between the (C233) Driver Blend Door Signal circuit and the (C26) 5-Volt Reference circuit at the Driver Blend Door Actuator harness connector.
Is there continuity between the (C233) Driver Blend Door Signal circuit and the (C26) 5-Volt Reference circuit?
Yes
- Repair the short between the (C233) Driver Blend Door Signal circuit and the (C26) 5-Volt Reference circuit.
- Perform the HVAC VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to HVAC VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 6
- Check for continuity between the (C233) Driver Blend Door Signal circuit and the (C26) 5-Volt Reference circuit at the Driver Blend Door Actuator harness connector.
- CHECK THE DRIVER BLEND DOOR ACTUATOR
- Reconnect the HVAC Module C1 harness connector.
- Connect a jumper between the (C233) Driver Blend Door Signal circuit and the (C333) Actuator Return Signal circuit at the Driver Blend Door Actuator harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.NOTE:
It may take up to a minute of problem identification for the DTC to set.
NOTE:The DTC B11CB-11-MAIN/LEFT TEMPERATURE DOOR CONTROL - CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND should be active or pending with the jumper in place.
Does the scan tool display as described above?
Yes
- Verify that there is good pin to terminal contact in the Driver Blend Door Actuator and HVAC Module connectors. If no problems are found, replace the Driver Blend Door Actuator in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to ACTUATOR, BLEND DOOR, REMOVAL .
- Perform the HVAC VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to HVAC VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Remove the jumper before continuing.
- Go To 7
- CHECK RELATED HVAC MODULE AND COMPONENT CONNECTIONS
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect all HVAC harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Check for spread terminals and verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Reconnect all HVAC harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Test drive or operate the vehicle in accordance with the when monitored and set conditions.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the HVAC Module in accordance with the Service information. Refer to MODULE, HVAC, REMOVAL .
- Perform the HVAC VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to HVAC VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- The wiring or poor connection problem has been repaired.
- Perform the HVAC VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to HVAC VERIFICATION TEST .
