Hydraulic Fluid Fill

Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
Remove the muffler. Refer to MUFFLER, EXHAUST, REMOVAL .
Disengage the wire harness clips from the rear cross-member to gain length in the wire harness.
NOTE:
The wire harness connectors must be left plugged in to the Rear Drive Unit (RDU), they will be needed in the filling process.

Apply alignment index marks (3) to the rear propeller shaft flange and the rear pinion flange.
Remove and discard the rear propeller shaft bolts (1).
Separate the propeller shaft from the rear pinion flange and secure the propeller shaft to the side.

Using a suitable jack, support and secure the RDU (1).
NOTE:
The RDU must be LEVEL on the jack.

Remove the rear RDU bracket to isolator bolt (1).
NOTE:
It may be necessary to position the rear sway bar (2) of the way to gain clearance for rear RDU bracket to isolator bolt (1).

Remove the front RDU bracket to isolator bolts (1 and 2).
NOTE:
RDU must be level on jack when filling with fluid.
Lower the RDU evenly until there is approximately 4 in. (10 cm) of clearance between the body and the RDU hydraulic fluid cover.
NOTE:
Make sure the wire harness and vent hose is not damaged.
Place a drain pan under the RDU.

Remove the hydraulic fluid cover (1) bolts (2).
Remove the hydraulic fluid cover (1) and gasket.
NOTE:
Do not allow any debris to fall into hydraulic reservoir.

Fill the reservoir (2) with hydraulic fluid so that the fluid is level with the cast Fill Level Indicator (1).
Refer to CAPACITIES AND RECOMMENDED FLUIDS, SPECIFICATIONS .

NOTE:
Do not mix hydraulic fluid and the RDU lubricant. Use only recommended fluid to prevent damage to Rear Driveline Unit components. Fluid must meet material specification MS-2155.

NOTE:
A mirror may be required to see the fluid level.
Using the scan tool actuate the Rear Differential Bleed procedure in the Misc. Functions menu and follow the prompts.

Install a new diaphragm gasket (1) and install hydraulic fluid cover (2). Tighten the bolts to the proper torque. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
NOTE:
Be sure that the diaphragm gasket is properly orientated by ensuring the vent holes (3) align.
Raise the RDU in place and install the front and rear RDU bracket to isolator bolts and tighten to the. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
Clip the wiring harness into the rear cross-member.

NOTE:
The six bolts that are used to secure the propeller shaft to the RDU input flange MUST be replaced. Do not reuse the bolts/washers.

NOTE:
Use of Anti-seize compound is prohibited.

NOTE:
Make sure the double washer is flat/flush to the joint housing prior to tightening the bolt to avoid damage to the washer, if damaged replace bolt washer assembly.

NOTE:
No torque verification is allowed after 10 minutes of the bolts being tightened to specifications. ANY MANIPULATION of the bolts after 10 minutes of being tightened will require the bolt(s) to be replaced.
Position the propeller shaft in place, align the index marks on rear propeller shaft flange and rear pinion flange, install NEW propeller shaft bolts and tighten the to the proper torque. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
Install the muffler. Refer to MUFFLER, EXHAUST, INSTALLATION .
