Pressure Bleeding

NOTE:

Pressure bleeding is the preferred method after Integrated Control Unit (ICU) replacement.

NOTE:

Follow pressure bleeder manufacturer instructions for use of pressure bleeding equipment.

NOTE:

Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) pressure bleeding is done with the use of power pressure brake bleed equipment

NOTE:

To bleed the brakes with a pressure bleeder, the aid of a helper will be required.

ABS system bleeding requires conventional bleeding methods plus use of a scan tool. The procedure involves performing a base brake bleeding, followed by use of the scan tool to cycle and bleed the HCU pump and solenoids.

  1. Perform base brake bleeding. Refer to BASE BRAKE BLEEDING .
  2. Install pressure bleeding equipment by following the pressure bleeder manufacturer instructions.
  3. Connect a scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC) and navigate to the ABS menu to begin bleed process.
  4. Starting at the left front wheel, following the scan tool on screen instructions, open the bleed screw and continue following scan tool process until cycle completes. Repeat this process for each remaining wheel going to right front, right rear, left rear.
  5. Top off the master cylinder fluid level and verify proper brake operation before moving vehicle.
  6. Test drive the vehicle to verify that the brakes are operating correctly and that the brake pedal feels firm.
