Manual Bleeding

NOTE:
ABS manual bleeding is done without the use of power pressure brake bleed equipment.
NOTE:
To bleed the brakes manually, the aid of a helper will be required.It is critical that during this process that the master cylinder brake fluid remains within operating range.
ABS system bleeding requires conventional bleeding methods plus use of a scan tool. The procedure involves performing a base brake bleeding, followed by use of the scan tool to cycle and bleed the HCU pump and solenoids.
- Perform base brake bleeding. Refer to BASE BRAKE BLEEDING .
- Connect scan tool to the Data Link Connector and navigate to the ABS menu to begin bleed process.
- Starting at the LF wheel, following the scan tool prompts, open the bleed screw and begin stroking the brake pedal every two seconds while continuing to follow scan tool process until cycle is completed. Repeat this process for each remaining wheel going to RF, RR, LR.
- Top off master cylinder fluid level and verify proper brake operation before moving vehicle.
- Test drive the vehicle to be sure the brakes are operating correctly and that the brake pedal does not feel spongy.
