Installation - 3.2L

  1. Remove the tape or plugs from the Internal Heat Exchanger line fittings and ports.
  2. Lubricate a new washer seal with clean refrigerant oil and install it and new seals on the suction/discharge manifold. Use only the specified washer seals as it is made of a special material for the refrigerant in the system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the vehicle.

  3. Position the IHX in the engine compartment.
  4. Install the IHX manifold (1) to the A/C compressor (3), then install and tighten the bolt (1) to the proper torque. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

  5. Position the IHX bracket (2) on the stud and securely tighten the nut (1).
  6. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to CONVERTER, CATALYTIC, INSTALLATION .

  7. Install the bolt (1) securing the IHX manifold (2) to the bracket.

  8. Position the coolant tube (2) on the studs, then install and securely tighten the nuts (1).

  9. Remove the tape or plugs from the line fittings and ports.
  10. Lubricate a new washer seal with clean refrigerant oil and install it and new seal on the suction line fitting. Use only the specified washer seal as it is made of a special material for the refrigerant in the system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the vehicle.
  11. Install the discharge line (1) and liquid line (2) to the IHX, then install and tighten the nuts (3) to the proper torque. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

  12. Remove the tape or plugs from the upper suction line fitting.
  13. Lubricate a new washer seal with clean refrigerant oil and install it and new seal on the suction line fitting. Use only the specified washer seal as it is made of a special material for the refrigerant in the system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  14. Install the bolt (1) securing the IHX manifold (2) bracket to the engine and securely tighten.
  15. Attach the suction/discharge line to the IHX manifold (2), then install and tighten the nut to the proper torque. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  16. Install the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL (PCM), INSTALLATION .
  17. Evacuate the refrigerant system. Refer to PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  18. Adjust the refrigerant oil level. Refer to OIL, REFRIGERANT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  19. Charge the A/C system. Refer to PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  20. Install the engine cover.
