Installation - 3.2L

CAUTION:

Be certain to adjust the refrigerant oil level when servicing the A/C refrigerant system. Failure to properly adjust the refrigerant oil level will prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.

CAUTION:

The A/C liquid line must be replaced if an internal failure of the A/C compressor has occurred. Failure to replace the A/C liquid line can prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.

NOTE:

When replacing multiple A/C system components, refer to the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant system. Refer to OIL, REFRIGERANT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .

NOTE:

Replacement of the refrigerant line washers seals is required anytime a refrigerant line is opened. Failure to replace the washer seals could result in a refrigerant system leak.

  1. Remove the tape or plugs from the refrigerant line fittings and the expansion valve ports.
  2. Lubricate the new washer seals with clean refrigerant oil and install the seals on the liquid and suction line fittings. Use only the specified washer seals as they are made of special materials compatible with the refrigerant in the system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the vehicle.
  3. Position the suction/liquid line assembly in the engine compartment.
  4. Attach the suction/liquid line manifold (3) to the expansion valve (2), then install and tighten the nut (1) to the proper torque. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

  5. Remove the tape or plugs from the refrigerant line fittings.
  6. Lubricate the new washer seals with clean refrigerant oil and install on the suction/liquid line fitting.
  7. Connect the suction/liquid line manifold (1) to the Internal Heat Exchanger (IHX), then install and tighten the nut (2) to the proper torque. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  8. Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector to the negative battery cable.
  9. Evacuate the refrigerant system Refer to PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  10. Adjust the refrigerant oil level. Refer to OIL, REFRIGERANT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  11. Charge the A/C system. Refer to PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  12. Install the engine cover.
