Installation - 2.0L, 2.2L, 2.4L

CAUTION:

Be certain to adjust the refrigerant oil level when servicing the A/C refrigerant system. Failure to properly adjust the refrigerant oil level will prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.

NOTE:

When replacing multiple A/C system components, refer to the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant system. Refer to OIL, REFRIGERANT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .

NOTE:

Replacement of the refrigerant line O-ring seals and gaskets is required anytime a refrigerant line is opened. Failure to replace the rubber O-ring seals and metal gaskets could result in a refrigerant system leak.

Remove the tape or plugs from the discharge line fitting and the compressor port.
Lubricate a new rubber seal with clean refrigerant oil and install it and a new seal onto the discharge line fitting. Use only the specified seals as it is made of a special material for the system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
Remove the tape or plugs from the discharge and suction line fitting and the compressor port.
Install the A/C suction and discharge line (1) to the A/C compressor and tighten the nut (2) to the proper torque. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

Lubricate a new rubber seal with clean refrigerant oil and install it and a new seal onto the suction line fitting. Use only the specified seals as it is made of a special material for the system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
Connect the lower suction line and tighten the nut (2) to the proper torque. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
Install the splash shield onto the right side frame rail. Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, REAR WHEELHOUSE, INSTALLATION .

Attach the discharge line (3) to the liquid line (1) and position the manifold to the condenser jumper line (2).

Install the A/C discharge/liquid line manifold retaining nut (1) and tighten to the proper torque. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

Be sure that the A/C discharge line (1) is not stowed behind the area shaded red (2) (between the alternator and exhaust manifold). The A/C discharge line (1) needs to be in front of the exhaust manifold.
Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector to the negative battery cable.
CAUTION:
Do NOT run the engine with a vacuum pump in operation or with a vacuum present within the A/C system. Failure to follow this caution will result in serious A/C compressor damage.
Evacuate the refrigerant system. Refer to PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
Adjust the refrigerant oil level. Refer to OIL, REFRIGERANT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
Charge the refrigerant system. Refer to PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
