Cylinder Head: Description

The MultiAir, aluminum cylinder head contains an exhaust camshaft and a variable valve actuator assembly (VVAA) with four valves per cylinder. The valves are arranged in two in-line banks. The exhaust valves face toward the front of the vehicle. The intake valves face the dash panel. The exhaust valvetrain uses roller rocker arms with hydraulic lash adjusters. The cylinder head incorporates pressed in powdered metal valve guides. The valve guides are not serviceable. The cylinder head is sealed to the block using a multi-layer steel head gasket and retaining bolts. The valves contain a stem seal, spring, spring retainer and three groove keepers.

Integral oil galleries provide lubrication passages to the VVAA, camshaft bearings and hydraulic lash adjusters.
