Clunking Noise During Acceleration

SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSE REPAIR
Clunk or snap noise during launch or when shifting into drive or reverse gear.
  • Loose hub nut.
  • Damaged hub splines.
  • Replace hub nut.
  • Replace hub bearing and half shaft.
Clunking noise at low speed.
  • Severely worn or damaged tripod or Constant Velocity (CV) joint.
  • Replace half shaft.
Rattle or clunk over bumps. Grease is slung around the undercarriage.
  • Loss of lube in CV joint boots.
  • Replace half shaft.
