Indicator, Seat Belt Reminder (SBR): Description
Vehicles manufactured for certain export markets are equipped with the Seat Belt Reminder (SBR) indicator (1), which is located within the overhead console. The SBR indicator consists of Light Emitting Diode (LED) units, a Local Interface Network (LIN) data bus communication microchip, an opaque overlay and a translucent outer lens.
The molded plastic indicator housing is secured to the inner surface of the overhead console housing by two spring clips (2) on each end of the housing. An integral connector receptacle on the back of the housing connects the SBR to the vehicle electrical system through a dedicated take out and connector of the overhead console wire harness.
The opaque overlay of the SBR includes five stencil-like cutouts of the International Control and Display Symbol icon for Seat Belt within the SBR indicator. Three of the icons in the center of the display are smaller and represent the three rear seating positions, while the two larger icons border the smaller ones and represent the two front seating positions. An LED unit behind each icon causes that icon to appear in green or red through the translucent lens when it is illuminated from behind by the LED.
Some settings for the SBR feature may be programmable using a diagnostic scan tool and the appropriate commands through the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). The SBR indicator cannot be adjusted or repaired and, if ineffective or damaged, the SBR indicator unit must be replaced.
