Power Transfer Unit (PTU) Fluid Fill

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. If equipped, remove the skid plate. Refer to PLATE, SKID, TRANSMISSION, REMOVAL .

  3. Remove the four heat shield bolts (2) holding the heat shield (1) to the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) and remove the heat shield.

  4. Position a drain pan under the PTU fill plug.
  5. Remove the PTU fill plug (1).
  6. Fill the PTU to the bottom of the PTU fill plug hole using the specified fluid. Refer to CAPACITIES AND RECOMMENDED FLUIDS, SPECIFICATIONS .
    NOTE:

    It may take several minutes for the fluid to equalize in the PTU before a final fluid level check can be determined. 

  7. Install PTU fill plug (1) and tighten to the proper. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

  8. Install the PTU heat shield (1) and tighten the heat shield bolts (2) to the proper. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  9. If equipped, install the skid plate. Refer to PLATE, SKID, TRANSMISSION, INSTALLATION .
  10. Lower vehicle.
