Axle Seal Installation - Right Side AWD

NOTE:
Clean the adapter sleeve with suitable solvent and blow it dry with regulated 344 kPa (50 psi) shop air.
- Apply assembly lube on the inner seal lip to avoid damaging the seal during installation.
- Place the adapter sleeve on a suitable work surface with the transmission side up.
- Install the NEW
lip seal (2) on the (special tool #2049300210, Installer, Adapter Sleeve Seal) (3), (AWD Shown in illustrration) with the tension spring up.
- Using tool (special tool #2049300210, Installer, Adapter Sleeve Seal) (2), (special tool #C-4171, Driver Handle, Universal) and a hammer, install the seal in the adapter sleeve (1).
- Apply assembly lube on the outer seal (1) lip to avoid damaging the seal during installation.
- Insert the NEW
lip seal (1) into the transmission (2).
- Using tool (special tool #C-3972-A, Installer, Seal) (3), (special tool #C-4171, Driver Handle, Universal) (2), and a hammer (1), Install the outer lip seal in the transmission.
- Install the adapter sleeve (1) in the transmission.
- Install the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) into the vehicle. Refer to INSTALLATION .
- Verify that the transmission fluid level is at the proper level. Refer to FLUID AND FILTER, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Road test the vehicle to verify the repair.
