Differential And Ring Gear: Assembly: 4WD

- Using tool (special tool #MD998805, Installer, Seal) (1) and an arbor press, install the ball bearing (2) from the stub shaft (3).
- Using suitable snap-ring pliers (2), install the snap-ring to hold the ball bearing (3) on the stub shaft (1).
- Using tool (special tool #8594, Installer, Bearing Cup) (3), (special tool #C-4171, Driver Handle, Universal) (2) and a suitable hammer (1), Install the stub shaft needle roller bearing (4) into the differential housing.
- Insert the stub shaft into the differential housing.
- Using a solid surface, drive the stub shaft (2) and bearing into of the differential housing (1).
- Install the snap-ring (2) to hold the stub shaft bearing in the differential housing (1).
- Place the two halves (1) of the differential housing (2) together.
- Place the ring gear (1) in position on the differential housing (2).
- Install the bolts (2) to hold the ring gear (1) to the differential housing.
- Using a suitable torque wrench (1) and a pry bar (2), tighten the ring gear bolts (4) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the differential housing in position in the transmission.
- Install the bellhousing on the transmission. Refer to BELLHOUSING, INSTALLATION .
- Install the differential adapter sleeve (1), AWD shown in illustrration.
- Install the transmission in the vehicle. Refer to INSTALLATION .
- Road test the vehicle to verify the repair.
