Latch Mounted Switch
There are two types of hood ajar switches used on this vehicle. This information covers the hood ajar switch (1) mounted hood latch that is standard equipment on all vehicles. A stand alone switch is also used on some vehicles in addition to the latch mounted switch, but is discussed elsewhere in this service information.
The latch mounted hood ajar switch is integrated into the hood latch assembly and is a normally open, single pole, spring-loaded plunger actuated switch. The input of this switch may be used for the Vehicle Theft Alarm (VTA) system as well as for the optional remote start system. The switch is connected to the vehicle electrical system through a dedicated take out and connector of the headlamp and dash wire harness.
The latch mounted hood ajar switch can not be adjusted or repaired. If damaged or ineffective this switch type must be replaced as a unit with the hood latch assembly.
