The Ultrasonic and Anti-tilt Module (UAM) (1) is part of the premium version of the Vehicle Theft Alarm (VTA) available only in Right-Hand Drive (RHD) vehicles manufactured for certain export markets where it is required equipment. The UAM is concealed above the overhead console trim cover at the front center of the headliner. Only the rearward-facing transmit and receive ultrasonic transducer membranes are visible within small grilled openings on the outboard rear corners of the overhead console trim cover within the passenger compartment of the vehicle.

The molded plastic UAM housing and both transducers are fit into mounts and fittings integral to and concealed on the inside surface of the overhead console trim cover. Each of the transducers is hard-wired to the UAM housing. The overhead console trim cover is secured by snap clips that pass through the console opening in the headliner into the overhead console mounting bracket above the headliner substrate. A connector receptacle integral to the right end of the UAM housing contains terminal pins that are connected to the vehicle electrical system through a dedicated take out and connector of the overhead wire harness.

Concealed within the center of the UAM housing is the electronic circuitry of the module. The UAM housing is sealed to enclose and protect the internal components of the module including a microcontroller, anti-tilt sensors and electronic communication circuitry. The UAM is also a Local Interface Network (LIN) slave node and communicates over the LIN data bus with the Body Control Module (BCM), which is the LIN master node.

The UAM and the two ultrasonic transducers cannot be adjusted or repaired. If ineffective or damaged, the entire UAM and both transducers must be replaced as a unit.
