Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR ACTIVE DTCS
- With the scan tool, record and erase the DTCs.
- Cycle the ignition off, wait 10 seconds, then cycle the ignition on.
- If possible, operate the liftgate several times.
- With the scan tool, read the Active DTCs.
Does the scan tool display; B1945-12-LIFTGATE PINCH SENSOR 2- CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Test complete, the condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals and poor pin fit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- ISOLATE AND CHECK THE (Q901) LOGIC GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- The ignition must be off when checking the continuity of a circuit.
- Disconnect the Left Liftgate Pinch Sensor connector.
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (Q901) Logic Ground circuit in the Left Pinch Sensor harness connector.
- Before measuring the resistance of any circuit, first measure the resistance between the two leads of the DVOM. Note:
The meter leads can add resistance to the measurement value.
Note: Use the wiring diagram as a guide to follow the path of the circuit.
Is the resistance below 9.5 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Repair the (Q901) Logic Ground circuit for an open.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE LEFT LIFTGATE PINCH SENSOR
- Measure the resistance between the (Q901) Logic Ground circuit and the (Q75) Left Pinch Sensor Signal circuit in the Left Liftgate Pinch/Temp Sensor (Component Side) connector.NOTE:
The vehicle should be at room temperature when this test is performed. At 50 deg F the reading should be between 18K and 22K. At 77 deg F the reading should be between 9.12K and 10.88K. At 104 deg F the reading should be between 4.90K and 5.75K.
Is the resistance between 4.9K and 22K Ohms depending on the temperature?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Replace the Left Liftgate Pinch Sensor in accordance with the service information. Refer to SENSOR, PINCH, REMOVAL .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance between the (Q901) Logic Ground circuit and the (Q75) Left Pinch Sensor Signal circuit in the Left Liftgate Pinch/Temp Sensor (Component Side) connector.
- ISOLATE AND CHECK THE (Q75) LEFT PINCH SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO ANOTHER CIRCUIT AT THE PLGM HARNESS CONNECTOR
- The ignition must be off when performing a resistance check to find a short between circuits.
- Isolate the circuit by disconnecting the Power Liftgate Module (PLGM) and every component harness connector containing the circuit being tested. At this time leave all in-line connectors connected. Note: Use the wiring diagram as a guide to follow the path of the circuit.
- Connect one lead of the DVOM to the circuit being tested at the PLGM harness connector.
- With the other lead of the DVOM probe all other circuits at the PLGM harness connector.NOTE:
With the circuit isolated there should be no continuity between the circuit being tested and any other circuit.
Is there continuity between the circuit being tested and any other circuit?
Yes
- Repair the short between the circuits that have continuity. Use the wiring diagram as a guide to trace the circuits and look for any in-line connectors to help isolate the location of the short.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the Left Liftgate Pinch Sensor in accordance with the service information. Refer to SENSOR, PINCH, REMOVAL .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
- Disconnect all PLGM harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped.)
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped.)
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw.)
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Check for spread terminals and verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Connect all PLGM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Connect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped.) Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Connect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Operate the vehicle in accordance with the when monitored and set conditions.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the Power Liftgate Module in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, POWER LIFTGATE CONTROL (PLGM), REMOVAL .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Repair the poor connections.
- Test complete. Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
