Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 Jeep Cherokee. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
    NOTE:

Before proceeding be sure this vehicle is equipped with Memory Mirrors and the configuration is set to = True.

    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. Using a scan tool, record and erase the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
    3. Turn the driver side turn signal on.
    4. Turn the approach lamps on, if equipped.
    5. Turn the rear defogger on, if equipped with heated mirror.
    6. Press and release the Mirror Select switch to select the Driver Outside Rearview Mirror.
    7. Operate the Mirror Adjust Switch in all directions several times while monitoring the scan tool for DTCs in the DDM.
      NOTE:

After adjusting the mirror in one direction wait at least two seconds before adjusting the mirror in the opposite direction, as this will allow time for an active DTC to set, if present.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes

      • Go To  2

      No

      • The condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension and repair as necessary. If no problems are found, test complete.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  2. CHECK THE (A856) 5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO BATTERY
    NOTE:

In this step we are measuring the 5-Volt Supply voltage at the Driver Door Module. It should not be over 5.5 volts.

    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Driver Outside Rearview Mirror C1 and C2 (Component Side) harness connectors from the Driver Door Module C1 and C2 connectors.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. Measure the voltage between Ground and the (A856) 5-volt Supply circuit at the Driver Door Module connector.

Is the Voltage above 5.5 Volts?

      Yes

      No

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK THE (A856) 5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO ANOTHER SIGNAL OR DRIVER CIRCUITS
    NOTE:

We are now checking the wiring and the mirror for any crossed circuits.

    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Check for continuity between the (A856) 5-Volt Supply circuit and all Signal or Driver circuits in the Driver Outside Rearview Mirror C1 and C2 (Component Side) harness connectors.

Is there continuity between the (A856) 5-Volt Supply circuit and any Signal or Driver circuit(s)?

      Yes

      • Repair the (A856) 5-Volt Supply circuit for a short to any Signal or Driver circuit(s).
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK THE (P71) DRIVER MIRROR VERTICAL DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO ANOTHER SIGNAL OR DRIVER CIRCUITS
    1. Check for continuity between the (P71) Driver Mirror Vertical Driver circuit and any Signal or Driver circuits in the Driver Outside Rearview Mirror C1 and C2 (Component Side) harness connectors.

Is there continuity between the (P71) Driver Mirror Vertical Driver circuit and any Signal or Driver circuit(s)?

      Yes

      • Repair the (P71) Driver Mirror Vertical Driver circuit for a short to any Signal or Driver circuit(s).
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No

      • Go To  5
  5. CHECK (P75) DRIVER MIRROR HORIZONTAL DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO ANY CIRCUIT DRIVER OR SIGNAL CIRCUITS
    1. Check for continuity between the (P75) Driver Mirror Horizontal Driver circuit and any Signal or Driver circuits in the Driver Outside Rearview Mirror C1 and C2 (Component Side) harness connectors.

Is there continuity between the (P75) Driver Mirror Horizontal Driver circuit and any Signal or Driver circuit(s)?

      Yes

      • Repair the (P75) Driver Mirror Horizontal Driver circuit for a short to any Signal or Driver circuit(s).
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No

      • Go To  6
  6. CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
    1. Disconnect all DDM harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Check for spread terminals and verify proper terminal tension.

Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Connect all DDM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    6. Connect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Connect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    9. Test drive or operate the vehicle in accordance with the when monitored and set conditions.
    10. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes

      No
