Diagnostic Test

  1. VERIFY ACTIVE DTC 
    NOTE:

    Make sure the battery is fully charged.

    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, read all ORC DTCs.

      Does the scan tool display active B0052-12-PASSENGER SEATBELT SENSOR - CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY DTC?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. (R58) PASSENGER SEAT BELT SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE 
    WARNING:

    Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    1. Disconnect the Passenger Seat Belt Buckle Switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the ORC harness connector.
      NOTE:

      Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.

    3. Connect the (special tool #8443-57, Adapter, Supplemental Restraint System Load Tool) to the ORC harness connectors.
    4. If equipped with the standard key ignition, use this ignition on warning.
      WARNING:

      Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    5. If equipped with the keyless ignition, use this ignition on warning.
      WARNING:

      Disconnect the 12-volt battery wait two minutes before proceeding, remove the ORC fuses, connect the 12-volt battery, wait two minutes before proceeding. Cycle the ignition to the On position, then reconnect the ORC fuses. Wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    6. Measure the voltage of the (R58) Passenger Seat Belt Switch Signal circuit between the (special tool #8443-57, Adapter, Supplemental Restraint System Load Tool) connector C1B cavity 23 and ground.

      Is there any voltage present on the circuit?

      Yes 

      WARNING:

      Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

      • Repair the (R58) Passenger Seat Belt Switch Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
      • Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. (R730) FIRST ROW PASSENGER SEAT SENSORS COMMON RETURN CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE 
    1. Measure the voltage of the (R730) First Row Passenger Seat Sensors Common Return circuit between connector C1B cavity 19 of the (special tool #8443-57, Adapter, Supplemental Restraint System Load Tool) and ground.

      Is there any voltage present on the circuit?

      Yes 

      WARNING:

      Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

      • Repair or replace the (R730) First Row Passenger Seat Sensors Common Return circuit for a short to voltage.
      • Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  4
  4. (R58) PASSENGER SEAT BELT SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    WARNING:

    Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    1. Measure the resistance of the (R58) Passenger Seat Belt Switch Signal circuit between the Passenger Seat Belt Buckle Switch harness connector cavity 1 and connector C1B cavity 23 of the (special tool #8443-57, Adapter, Supplemental Restraint System Load Tool).

      Is the resistance below or within the range of 5.4 - 10.0 Ohm?

      Yes 

      • Go To  5

      No 

      • Repair or replace the (R58) Passenger Seat Belt Switch Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
  5. (R730) FIRST ROW DRIVER SEAT SENSORS COMMON RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    1. Measure the resistance of the (R730) First Row Passenger Seat Sensors Common Return circuit between the Passenger Seat Belt Buckle Switch harness connector cavity 2 and the (special tool #8443-57, Adapter, Supplemental Restraint System Load Tool) connector C1B cavity.

      Is the resistance below or within the range of 5.4 - 10.0 Ohm?

      Yes 

      • Go To  6

      No 

      • Repair or replace the (R730) First Row Passenger Seat Sensors Common Return circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
  6. CHECK OPERATION OF THE FIRST ROW PASSENGER SEAT BELT SWITCH 
    WARNING:

    Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    1. Replace the Passenger Seat Belt Switch. Refer to BUCKLE, SEAT BELT, REMOVAL .
    2. Reconnect the vehicle body harness to the switch.
    3. If equipped with the standard key ignition, use this ignition on warning.
      WARNING:

      Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    4. If equipped with the keyless ignition, use this ignition on warning.
      WARNING:

      Disconnect the 12-volt battery wait two minutes before proceeding, remove the ORC fuses, connect the 12-volt battery, wait two minutes before proceeding. Cycle the ignition to the On position, then reconnect the ORC fuses. Wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    5. Connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector - use the most current software available.
    6. Use the scan tool and erase all codes in the ORC.
    7. Turn the ignition off, and wait 15 seconds before turning the Ignition On.
    8. Wait one minute, and read active codes.

      Did the active B0052-12-PASSENGER SEATBELT SENSOR - CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY DTC return?

      Yes 

      WARNING:

      If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

      WARNING:

      Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
