Diagnostic Test
- VERIFY ACTIVE DTC NOTE:
Make sure the battery is fully charged.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read ORC DTC.
Does the scan tool display active B0050-13-DRIVER SEATBELT SENSOR - CIRCUIT OPEN DTC?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST .
- (R57) DRIVER SEAT BELT BUCKLE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT AND (R729) FIRST ROW DRIVER SEAT DETECTION RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the Driver Seat Belt Buckle Switch harness connector.
- Disconnect the ORC harness connectors.NOTE:
Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
- Connect the (special tool #8443-57, Adapter, Supplemental Restraint System Load Tool) to the ORC harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (R57) Driver Seat Belt Buckle Switch Sense circuit between cavity 1 of the Driver Seat Belt Buckle Switch harness connector and connector C1B cavity 24 of the (special tool #8443-57, Adapter, Supplemental Restraint System Load Tool).
- Measure the resistance of the (R729) First Row Driver Seat Detection Return Circuit between cavity 2 of the Driver Seat Belt Buckle Switch harness connector and connector C1B cavity 36 of the (special tool #8443-57, Adapter, Supplemental Restraint System Load Tool).
Is the resistance above 5 Ohms on any of these circuits?
Yes
- Repair the (R57, R729) Driver Seat Belt Buckle Switch circuits for an open in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 3
- CHECK OPERATION OF THE FIRST ROW DRIVER SEAT BELT BUCKLE SWITCH
- Replace the Driver Seat Belt Buckle Switch in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to BUCKLE, SEAT BELT, REMOVAL .
- Reconnect the vehicle body harness connector to the Driver Seat Belt Buckle Switch.
- Remove any special tools or jumper wires and reconnect all previously disconnected components - except the Battery.
- If equipped with the standard key ignition, use this ignition on warning.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- If equipped with the keyless ignition, use this ignition on warning.WARNING:
Disconnect the 12-volt battery wait two minutes before proceeding, remove the ORC fuses, connect the 12-volt battery, wait two minutes before proceeding. Cycle the ignition to the On position, then reconnect the ORC fuses. Wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector - use the most current software available.
- Use the scan tool and erase the stored DTCs.
- Turn the Ignition OFF, and wait 15 seconds before turning the Ignition ON.
- Wait one minute, and read active DTCs and if there are none present read the stored DTCs.
Does the scan tool display active B0050-13-DRIVER SEATBELT SENSOR - CIRCUIT OPEN DTC?
Yes
WARNING:Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
WARNING:If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the Occupant Restrain Controller (ORC) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER, REMOVAL .
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Repair is complete.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
