Standard Procedure

NOTE:

This procedure involves installing an edge protector onto the metal upper header panel to prevent it from creating a split or cut through condition on the soft top fabric near the windshield when contact is present.

  1. Lower the soft top to gain access to the windshield header seal plate. Refer to the detailed procedures available in DealerConnect>TechCONNECT> under: Owner Manuals> Jeep Wrangler> UNDERSTANDING THE FEATURES OF YOUR VEHICLE> SOFT TOP - TWO-DOOR/FOUR-DOOR MODELS.

  2. Using a (special tool #C-4755, Trim Stick) remove the foam patches (1) covering the soft top fabric retainer (2) and tension cable flag
  3. Remove the fasteners that hold the fabric retainer (2) and tension cable flag to the lower plastic header panel (3).

  4. Remove the fasteners (1) that hold the lower plastic header panel (2) to the soft top frame tube (4).

  5. Pull soft top fabric (1) back from sides of metal upper header to remove retaining fasteners (2) hidden by the soft top fabric (1) from the soft top frame tube (4).
    NOTE:

    If header assembly does not slide off of the soft top frame tubes easily, gently tap the header assembly off the frame tubes using a soft non-marring mallet.

  6. Flip header assembly back in order to gain access to the remaining fasteners that were covered by the soft top fabric (1).

  7. Separate the lower plastic (3) and upper metal header panels (1) in order to remove the upper metal header panel from the soft top fabric pocket and install the edge protector on the upper header panel.

  8. Secure the header edge protector (1) onto the metal upper header plate (2) using masking/painter's tape (3) to keep the edge protector (1) properly seated and ease reinstallation.

  9. Tape (1) the soft top fabric welting (2) into the channel of the lower plastic header panel (3).
    NOTE:

    Be sure to line up the alignment notch in the lower plastic header panel with the alignment mark on the soft top fabric welt to insure proper placement.

  10. Reinstall the windshield header seal plate by following Step #7 through Step #3.

  11. Install the new header foam patches (1) on the right and left side
  12. Raise the soft top. Refer to the detailed procedures available in DealerConnect>TechCONNECT> under: Owner Manuals> Jeep Wrangler> UNDERSTANDING THE FEATURES OF YOUR VEHICLE> SOFT TOP - TWO-DOOR/FOUR-DOOR MODELS.
