Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, create a Vehicle Scan Report and attach it to the repair order.
- With the scan tool, read the Amplifier DTCs.
Is the DTC active?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION procedure. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK AMPLIFIER
- With an Infrared Thermometer, check the temperature of the Amplifier and its surrounding area.
Is the Amplifier or the area surrounding the Amplifier above 160°C (320°F) ?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Replace the Amplifier in accordance with Service Information. Refer to AMPLIFIER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- With an Infrared Thermometer, check the temperature of the Amplifier and its surrounding area.
- CHECK AMPLIFIER VENTILATION
- Check the surrounding area of the Amplifier for any objects covering or prohibiting proper ventilation.
Is the Amplifier covered or prohibited from properly ventilating?
Yes
- Remove all objects covering or prohibiting the Amplifier from being able to ventilate.
No
- Go To 4
- Check the surrounding area of the Amplifier for any objects covering or prohibiting proper ventilation.
- CHECK AMPLIFIER
- With the scan tool, erase the Amplifier DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off and allow the vehicle.
- Allow the Amplifier to cool down for 1 hour.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Operate the vehicle according to the customers condition(s) when the DTC set.
- With the scan tool, read the Amplifier DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Perform the TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION procedure. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
- Disconnect all AMP harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Reconnect all AMP harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the Amplifier in accordance with the Service information. Refer to AMPLIFIER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- Test complete.
