Standard Procedure - User Data Backup And Restore

The user data on the internal Hard Disk Drive (HDD) of a radio can be backed up and restored using a USB memory stick to save in the event that a radio replacement is required. This procedure can only be performed on radios equipped with a hard disk drive (RER, REN, RHR, RHB, RBZ, REU, RHP, RHW & RB2).
BACK UP
- Transition the ignition to the RUN status with the engine OFF.
- Connect the diagnostic scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC) of the vehicle and perform the following steps:
- Go to the Vehicle View .
- Click on the Radio icon button from the topology view.
- Select the System Tests folder.
- Click on the Radio Hard-drive Back-up option, and then click Continue .
- When prompted to Please connect portable Back-up Hard-drive to the radio before continuing insert a blank USB memory stick with sufficient space into the USB port of the radio and click Continue .
- On the radio display screen, select the HDD Backup
option and follow the instructions on the radio display. Once complete, remove the USB memory stick, select the back arrow on the radio display and then select Exit
.NOTE:
Hard drive back up times can vary based on radio hard drive used space. Ensure that the vehicle has the proper battery voltage to complete the entire download.
- On the scan tool, click Complete and disconnect from the vehicle.
RESTORE
- Transition the ignition to the RUN status with the engine OFF and the diagnostic scan tool connected to the Data Link Connector (DLC) of the vehicle. Perform the following steps to restore the user data:
- Go to Vehicle View .
- Click on the Radio icon button.
- Select the System Tests folder.
- Click on the Radio Hard-drive Back-up option, and then click Continue .
- When prompted to Please connect portable Backup hard-drive to the radio before continuing , plug the USB memory stick that was used in the Back Up procedure into the USB port of the radio, then click Continue .
- On the radio display screen, select the HDD Restore option, then follow the instructions on the radio display. Once complete, select the back arrow and then select Exit .
- On the diagnostic scan tool, click Complete and disconnect it from the vehicle.
- Remove the USB memory stick from the radio and transition the ignition to the OFF status.
- Open the driver door and the close all doors. Wait for a minimum of two minutes to allow the vehicle communication bus to go to sleep.
- Transition the ignition to the ON status, and turn on the radio. If you do not see the personal files on the hard drive, repeat step 8 above and wait a minute longer.
