The Transmission Control Module (TCM) uses inputs from the Turbine (Input) Speed Sensor, Output Speed Sensor, and (for 62TE) Transfer Speed Sensor. The Turbine (Input) Speed Sensor measures the input shaft speed. The Transfer Speed Sensor (62TE only) measures the speed of the transfer gears (which is the input to the compounder assembly). The Output Speed Sensor measures the transmission output speed. The speed sensor inputs are used by the TCM to calculate the actual gear ratio during transmission operation. The actual gear ratio is compared to the proper ratio for the selected gear. When in gear, if the actual gear ratio varies from the proper gear ratio four times within a driving cycle, a corresponding DTC is set and the transmission will go into Limp-in Mode.
