Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR ACTIVE DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition on, engine off.
    2. With the scan tool, select View DTCs in the PCM.

      Is the status Active for this DTC?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. CHECK VIN STORED IN THE PCM 
    1. With the scan tool, read the VIN code stored in the PCM and compare it to the vehicle.

      Does the PCM have the correct VIN stored?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

      • Program the correct VIN number into the PCM.
      • Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
  3. PROGRAMMING SKIM SECRET KEY CODE INTO THE PCM 
    1. With a scan tool, erase DTCs.
    2. Using the scan tool, program the secret key information into the PCM.
    3. Start the engine.
      NOTE:

      If the engine will not start, crank the engine over for 15 seconds. Crank at least 2 times with the ignition switch returning to the off position each time.

    4. Allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature.
    5. With the scan tool, select View DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To  4

      No 

      • The secret key information has been successfully programmed into the PCM. Test complete.
      • Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
  4. POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE 
    1. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
    2. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
    3. Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes 

      No
