Diagnostic Test
- DETERMINE ACTIVE OR STORED DTC NOTE:
Make sure the battery is fully charged.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read ORC DTCs.
Is the DTC active or stored?
ORC - ACTIVE DTC
- Go To 2
ORC - STORED DTC
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- CHECK (D12) CAN C BUS (-) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Front Star Connector CAN C C2 harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Measure the voltage of the (D12) CAN C BUS (-) circuit between the Front Star Connector CAN C C2 harness connector and ground.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (D12) CAN C BUS (-) circuit for a short to voltage in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 3
- CHECK (D11) CAN C BUS (+) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Measure the voltage of the (D11) CAN C BUS (+) circuit between the Front Star Connector CAN C C2 harness connector and ground.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (D11) CAN C BUS (+) circuit for a short to voltage in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 4
- Measure the voltage of the (D11) CAN C BUS (+) circuit between the Front Star Connector CAN C C2 harness connector and ground.
- CHECK (D11) CAN C BUS (+) CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
WARNING:
Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the ORC harness connectors.NOTE:
Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
- Connect the SRS Load Tool Adaptor (special tool #8443-28, SRS Load Tool Adapter) to the ORC harness connectors.
- Measure the resistance of the (D11) CAN C BUS (+) circuit between the Front Star Connector CAN C C2 harness connector and the SRS Load Tool Adapter (special tool #8443-28, SRS Load Tool Adapter).
Is resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Repair the (D11) CAN C BUS (+) circuit for an open in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Disconnect the ORC harness connectors.
- CHECK (D12) CAN C BUS (-) CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance of the (D12) CAN C BUS (-) circuit between the Front Star Connector CAN C C2 harness connector and the SRS Load Tool Adapter (special tool #8443-28, SRS Load Tool Adapter).
Is resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 6
No
- Repair the (D12) CAN C BUS (-) circuit for an open in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Measure the resistance of the (D12) CAN C BUS (-) circuit between the Front Star Connector CAN C C2 harness connector and the SRS Load Tool Adapter (special tool #8443-28, SRS Load Tool Adapter).
- CHECK (D11) CAN C BUS (+) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance of the (D11) CAN C BUS (+) circuit between ground and the Front Star Connector CAN C C2 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 100.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (D11) CAN C BUS (+) circuit for a short to ground in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 7
- Measure the resistance of the (D11) CAN C BUS (+) circuit between ground and the Front Star Connector CAN C C2 harness connector.
- CHECK (D12) CAN C BUS (-) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance of the (D12) CAN C BUS (-) circuit between ground and the Front Star Connector CAN C C2 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 100.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (D12) CAN C BUS (-) circuit for a short to ground in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 8
- Measure the resistance of the (D12) CAN C BUS (-) circuit between ground and the Front Star Connector CAN C C2 harness connector.
- REPLACE OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC)
When this code is set, view repair.
Repair
WARNING:If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the ORC in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER, REMOVAL .
- Perform RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
