Diagnostic Test
- VERIFY ACTIVE DTC NOTE:
Make sure the battery is fully charged.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read the ORC DTCs
Does the scan tool display active B1CDB-PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTOR CIRCUIT LOW DTC?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the AIRBAG SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- CHECK THE (R283) PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

WARNING:Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the Passenger Occupant Detector Sensor harness connector.
- Disconnect the ORC harness connectors.
- Connect the SRS Load Tool Adapter (special tool #8443-32-L, Adapter, SRS Adapter) or (special tool #8443-32-R, Adapter, SRS Adapter) to the ORC harness connectors.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Measure the (R283) Passenger Occupant Detector Signal circuit voltage between the appropriate terminal of the SRS Load Tool Adapter (special tool #8443-32-L, Adapter, SRS Adapter) or (special tool #8443-32-R, Adapter, SRS Adapter) and ground.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (R283) Passenger Occupant Detector Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 3
- CHECK THE (R283) PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

- Measure the resistance between ground and the (R283) Passenger Occupant Detector Signal circuit at the appropriate terminal of the SRS Load Tool Adapter (special tool #8443-32-L, Adapter, SRS Adapter) or the (special tool #8443-32-R, Adapter, SRS Adapter) and ground.
Is the resistance below 2.5 - 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (R283) Passenger Seat Occupant Detector circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 4
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (R283) Passenger Occupant Detector Signal circuit at the appropriate terminal of the SRS Load Tool Adapter (special tool #8443-32-L, Adapter, SRS Adapter) or the (special tool #8443-32-R, Adapter, SRS Adapter) and ground.
- CHECK THE (R284) PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTOR SENSOR RETURN CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

- Measure the resistance between ground and the (R284) Passenger Occupant Sensor Return circuit at the appropriate terminal of the SRS Load Tool Adapter (special tool #8443-32-L, Adapter, SRS Adapter) or (special tool #8443-32-R, Adapter, SRS Adapter) and ground.
Is the resistance below 2.5 - 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Repair the (R284) Passenger Occupant Sensor Return circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (R284) Passenger Occupant Sensor Return circuit at the appropriate terminal of the SRS Load Tool Adapter (special tool #8443-32-L, Adapter, SRS Adapter) or (special tool #8443-32-R, Adapter, SRS Adapter) and ground.
- CHECK THE (R283) PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTOR SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE

- Measure the resistance of the (R283) Passenger Occupant Detector Signal circuit between the Passenger Occupant Detector Sensor harness connector and the appropriate terminal of the SRS Load Tool Adapter (special tool #8443-32-L, Adapter, SRS Adapter) or the (special tool #8443-32-R, Adapter, SRS Adapter).
Is the resistance below 2.5 - 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 6
No
- Repair the (R283) Passenger Occupant Detector Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Measure the resistance of the (R283) Passenger Occupant Detector Signal circuit between the Passenger Occupant Detector Sensor harness connector and the appropriate terminal of the SRS Load Tool Adapter (special tool #8443-32-L, Adapter, SRS Adapter) or the (special tool #8443-32-R, Adapter, SRS Adapter).
- CHECK OPERATION OF THE PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTOR SENSOR
- Replace the Passenger Occupant Detector Sensor in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to SENSOR, OCCUPANT DETECTION, REMOVAL .
- Reconnect the vehicle body harness to the Passenger Occupant Detector Sensor.
- Remove any special tools or jumper wires and reconnect all previously disconnected components - except the Battery.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector - use the most current software available.
- Use the scan tool and erase the ORC stored codes.
- Turn the Ignition Off and wait 15 seconds before turning the Ignition On.
- Wait one minute and read active codes and if there are none present read the stored codes.
Does the scan tool display active B1CDB-PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANT DETECTOR CIRCUIT LOW DTC?
Yes
WARNING:Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
WARNING:If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the ORC in accordance with Service Information. Refer to MODULE, OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER, REMOVAL .
- Perform the AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Repair is complete.
- Perform the AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
