Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Jeep Wrangler and 2015 Jeep Wrangler. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. VERIFY ACTIVE DTC 
    NOTE:

    Make sure the battery is fully charged.

    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, read the ORC DTCs.

      Does the scan tool display active B1B54-PASSENGER SEAT BELT SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW DTC?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. CHECK THE (R58) PASSENGER SEAT BELT SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    WARNING:

    Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    1. Disconnect the Passenger Seat Belt Switch harness connector.
    2. Disconnect the ORC harness connectors.
      NOTE:

      Check harness connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.

    3. Connect the SRS Load Tool Adapter (special tool #8443-32-R, Adapter, SRS Adapter) or the (special tool #8443-32-L, Adapter, SRS Adapter) to the ORC harness connectors.
    4. Measure the resistance of the (R58) Passenger Seat Belt Switch Signal circuit between the appropriate terminal of the SRS Load Tool Adapter and ground.

      Is the resistance below 10.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Repair or replace the (R58) Passenger Seat Belt Switch Signal circuit for a short to ground.
      • Perform the AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK OPERATION OF THE 1st ROW PASSENGER SEAT BELT SWITCH 
    1. Replace the Passenger Seat Belt Switch in accordance with the Service Information.
    2. Disconnect the SRS Load Tool Adapter (special tool #8443-32-R, Adapter, SRS Adapter) or (special tool #8443-32-L, Adapter, SRS Adapter).
    3. Reconnect the ORC harness connectors.
      WARNING:

      Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    4. With the scan tool, read all active ORC DTCs.

      Does the scan tool display active B1B54-1ST ROW PASSENGER SEAT BELT SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW DTC?

      Yes 

      WARNING:

      Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

      WARNING:

      If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

      • Replace the ORC in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .

      No 

      • The repair is complete.
      • Perform the AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
