3.6L Engine - R-1234YF

CAUTION:

Be certain to adjust the refrigerant oil level when servicing the A/C refrigerant system. Failure to properly adjust the refrigerant oil level will prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.

NOTE:

When replacing multiple A/C system components, see the Refrigerant Oil Capacities table to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant system. Refer to OIL, REFRIGERANT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .

NOTE:

Replacement of the refrigerant line O-ring seals and gaskets is required anytime a refrigerant line is disconnected. Failure to replace the rubber O-ring seals and metal gaskets could result in a refrigerant system leak.

NOTE:

The A/C liquid line and the A/C suction line with Internal Heat Exchanger (IHX) are serviced together as an assembly.

  1. Position the A/C liquid and suction line assembly with IHX into the engine compartment.
  2. Remove the tape or plugs from the open refrigerant line fittings and the compressor, condenser and expansion valve ports.
  3. Lubricate new rubber O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil and install them onto the refrigerant line fittings. Use only the specified O-ring seals as they are made of a special material for the R-1234yf system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  4. Connect the A/C liquid line (3) and A/C suction line (4) to the A/C expansion valve (1) and install the retaining nut (2). Tighten the nut to the proper SPECIFICATIONS .

  5. Engage the refrigerant line bracket (1) onto the stud located on the cowl panel. Install the retaining nut (2) and securely tighten the nut.

  6. Lubricate a new rubber O-ring seal with clean refrigerant oil and install it and a new gasket onto the suction line fitting. Use only the specified O-ring seal as it is made of a special material for the R-1234yf system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  7. Connect the A/C suction line (1) to the A/C compressor. Install the retaining nut (2) and tighten the nut to the proper SPECIFICATIONS .
  8. Engage the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) push-in wire harness retainer (3) onto the suction line stud on the A/C compressor.

  9. Position the A/C liquid line bracket (2) to the PCM mounting bracket (4). Install the bolt (3) and securely tighten.

  10. Lubricate a new rubber O-ring seal with clean refrigerant oil and install it and a new gasket onto the liquid line fitting. Use only the specified O-ring seal as it is made of a special material for the R-1234yf system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  11. Connect the A/C liquid line (2) to the condenser tapping block. Install the retaining nut (1) and tighten the nut to the proper SPECIFICATIONS .
  12. Install the A/C pressure transducer (3) onto the A/C liquid line using a new O-ring seal and connect the wire harness connector (4).
  13. Install the coolant recovery container (1). Refer to BOTTLE, COOLANT RECOVERY, INSTALLATION .
  14. Install the engine upper intake manifold. Refer to MANIFOLD, INTAKE, INSTALLATION .
  15. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  16. Evacuate the refrigerant system. Refer to PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  17. Adjust the refrigerant oil level. Refer to OIL, REFRIGERANT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  18. Charge the refrigerant system. Refer to PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
