Housing-Air Inlet

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Jeep Wrangler and 2015 Jeep Wrangler. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:

The air inlet housing must be removed from HVAC housing and disassembled for service of the recirculation-air door.

NOTE:

LHD model with A/C shown in illustrations. RHD and heater-only models similar.

  1. Remove the HVAC housing assembly and place it on a workbench. Refer to HOUSING-HVAC, REMOVAL .
  2. Remove the air inlet housing (2) from the HVAC housing (1). Refer to HOUSING-AIR INLET, REMOVAL .

    NOTE:

    If the foam seal on top of the air inlet housing is deformed or damaged, the seal must be replaced.

  3. Disengage all the retaining tabs (1) that secure the foam seal and plate assembly (3) to the top of the air inlet housing (2) and remove the seal and plate assembly.

  4. Remove the two screws (1) that secure the recirculation door actuator (3) to the right side of the air inlet housing (2) and remove the actuator.

  5. Using needle nose pliers or equivalent, disengage all the retaining tabs (1) that secure the recirculation-air screen (4) to the air inlet housing (2) and remove the screen.
  6. Remove the recirculation door pivot shaft adapter (3) by carefully pushing down on the tab of the pivot shaft adapter, located inside of the air inlet housing (2), then pull the pivot shaft adapter straight out of the end of the recirculation door shaft.

    NOTE:

    If a rubber seal on the recirculation-air door is deformed or damaged, the door must be replaced.

  7. Carefully pinch the two ends (3) of the recirculation-air door (2) together and remove the door out the top of the air inlet housing (1).
