Diagnosis And Testing - Power Lock Switch

  1. Remove the power lock switch from the door inside trim panel. Refer to SWITCH, LOCK, REMOVAL .
  2. Disconnect the door wire harness connector from the back of the lock switch.
  3. Using an ohmmeter, test the resistance between the terminals of the switch as shown in the Power Lock Switch Tests chart .
    POWER LOCK SWITCH TESTS
    SWITCH POSITION (PINS) *RESISTANCE (OHMS)
    NEUTRAL (2 and 3) 50 Kilohms
    LOCK (2 and 3) 1 Kilohm
    UNLOCK (2 and 3) 249 Ohms
    SWITCH ILLUMINATION (1 and 3) LEDs - SET MULTIMETER TO DIODE MODE - CONNECT PIN 1 TO PLUS (+), CONNECT PIN 3 TO MINUS (-) - LED SHOULD BARELY GLOW
    *All resistance values are plus or minus 5%.
  4. If the switch fails any of the tests, replace the ineffective power lock switch as required.
