Manifold, Intake: Removal: Upper
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Jeep Wrangler and 2015 Jeep Wrangler. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
- Remove the air cleaner body. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL .
- Disconnect the electrical connectors from the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor (1) and the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) (6).
- Disengage the ETC harness from the clip (5) on the throttle body.
- Disengage the wire harness retainer (2) from the upper intake manifold.
- Disengage the wire harness retainers (3 and 4) from the left front upper intake manifold support bracket and reposition the wire harness.
- Disconnect the following hoses from the upper intake manifold:
- Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) (1)
- Vapor purge (3)
- Brake booster (2)
- Remove two nuts (2), two bolts (3) and the left front upper intake manifold support bracket (1).
- Disengage the brake booster hose retainer (1) from the left rear upper intake manifold support bracket.
- Disengage the wire harness retainers (2) from the left rear upper intake manifold support bracket and reposition the wire harness.
- Remove two nuts (2) from the left rear upper intake manifold support bracket (1).
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove the left front wheelhouse inner splash shield. Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, WHEELHOUSE, REMOVAL .
- Loosen two studbolts (3) and reposition the left rear upper intake manifold support bracket (1) away from the upper intake manifold.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Disengage and reposition the following hoses from the upper intake manifold:
- Transfer case vent (3)
- Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) (5)
- Fresh air makeup (4)
- Disengage the wire harness retainer (1) from the upper intake manifold.
- Disengage the wire harness connector retainer (2) from the right upper intake manifold support bracket.
- Disengage two purge tube retainers (6) from the right upper intake manifold support bracket.
- Remove two nuts (7) and reposition the heater core coolant tube assembly.
NOTE:
Heater core coolant tube assembly not shown in illustration for clarity.
- Remove two bolts (2) from the right upper intake manifold support bracket (1).
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove the right front wheelhouse inner splash shield. Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, WHEELHOUSE, REMOVAL .
- Remove two nuts (3) and the right upper intake manifold support bracket (1).
NOTE:
The upper intake manifold attaching bolts are captured in the upper intake manifold. Once loosened, the bolts will have to be lifted out of the lower intake manifold and held while removing the upper intake manifold.
NOTE:Exercise care not to inadvertently loosen the two fuel rail attachment bolts that are in close proximity of the upper intake manifold attaching bolts.
- Remove seven upper intake manifold attaching bolts (1) and remove the upper intake manifold (2).
- Remove and discard the six upper to lower intake manifold seals (1).
- Cover the open intake ports to prevent debris from entering the engine.
- If required, remove the insulator (2) from the LH cylinder head cover.
- If required, remove the push-pins (2) and the rear insulation pad (1) from the upper intake manifold.
- If required, remove the bolts (2) and the brackets (1) from the upper intake manifold.
- If required, remove the Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) sensor from the upper intake manifold. Refer to SENSOR, MANIFOLD AIR PRESSURE (MAP), REMOVAL .
- If required, remove the throttle body from the upper intake manifold. Refer to THROTTLE BODY, REMOVAL .
