Diagnostic Test

- VERIFY THE DTC IS ACTIVE
- Using the scan tool, read the DTCs.
Is the DTC active at this time?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING and perform the NO RESPONSE FROM SCCM diagnostic procedure.
- Using the scan tool, read the DTCs.
- VERIFY THAT THE STEERING ANGLE SENSOR IS ACTIVE ON THE BUS
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the scan tool, select Network Diagnostics.
- Verify that the Steering Angle Sensor is active on the bus.
Is the Steering Angle Sensor active on the bus?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Perform the U0212-LOST COMMUNICATION WITH SCM diagnostic procedure. Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING .
- ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE WARNING:
To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). Refer to RESTRAINTS - SERVICE INFORMATION before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.
- Replace the Anti-Lock Brakes System (ABS) Module in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM, REMOVAL .
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Using the scan tool, read ABS DTCs.
Does the DTC remain active?
Yes
- Replace the Steering Control Module (SCM) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to CLOCKSPRING, REMOVAL .
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Test complete.
