Shaft, Axle: Removal: Removal

NOTE:

The hub nut must be left attached to the axle shaft during removal whether servicing the axle shaft or the hub bearing.

  1. With transmission in neutral, position vehicle on hoist.
  2. Remove brake components.
  3. Remove wheel speed sensor from hub bearing.

  4. Remove three hub bearing bolts (1) from steering knuckle (2).

  5. Remove hub bearing (1) with axle shaft (2) through steering knuckle (3).
  6. Remove brake shield and hub bearing from axle.

  7. Clamp the axle shaft and hub bearing assembly (1) in a bench vise (2) and remove the axle shaft nut.
    NOTE:

    Make sure when clamping the axle shaft in a vise (2) that it is clamped at the yoke ear of the shaft.
