Diagnostic Test

  1. DETERMINE ACTIVE OR STORED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) 
    NOTE:

    Make sure the battery is fully charged.

    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. Using the scan tool, read all active ORC DTCs.

      Is the DTC active or stored?

      ORC - ACTIVE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) 

      • Go To  2

      ORC - STORED DTC 

  2. CHECK FOR SHORTED SQUIB CIRCUITS LEFT SEAT AIRBAG

    WARNING:

    Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    1. Disconnect the C313 in-line harness connector.
      NOTE:

      Check the connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.

    2. Connect the (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) to the C313 in-line harness connector.
    3. If the vehicle is equipped with the standard key ignition, follow this ignition on warning.
      WARNING:

      Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    4. If the vehicle is equipped with the keyless ignition, follow this ignition on warning.
      WARNING:

      Disconnect the 12-volt battery wait two minutes before proceeding, remove the ORC fuses, connect the 12-volt battery, wait two minutes before proceeding. Cycle the ignition to the On position, then reconnect the ORC fuses. Wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    5. Using the scan tool, read the active ORC DTCs.

      Does the scan tool display : B1C28-LEFT SIDE SEAT THORAX SQUIB 1 HIGH

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

      • Go To  4
  3. CHECK (R5) LEFT SEAT THORAX SQUIB 1 LINE 2 CIRCUIT AND (R7) LEFT SEAT THORAX SQUIB 1 LINE 1 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    WARNING:

    Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    1. Disconnect the (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) from the C313 in-line harness connector.
    2. Disconnect the ORC harness connectors.
      NOTE:

      Check the connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.

    3. Connect the (special tool #8443-28, SRS Load Tool Adapter) to the ORC harness connectors.
      WARNING:

      Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    4. Measure the resistance of the (R5) Left Seat Thorax Squib 1 Line 2 circuit between ground and the appropriate terminal of the (special tool #8443-28, SRS Load Tool Adapter).
    5. Measure the resistance of the (R7) Left Seat Thorax Squib 1 Line 1 circuit between ground and the (special tool #8443-28, SRS Load Tool Adapter).

      Is there any voltage present on either circuit?

      Yes 

      WARNING:

      Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

      • Repair or replace the Left Seat Thorax Squib 1 circuit with voltage present for a short to voltage in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      WARNING:

      If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

      WARNING:

      Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

  4. CHECK FOR SHORTED SQUIB CIRCUITS IN LEFT SEAT AIRBAG

    WARNING:

    Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    1. Disconnect the (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) from the C313 in-line harness connector.
    2. Reconnect the C313 in-line harness connector.
    3. Disconnect the Left Seat Airbag connector.
      WARNING:

      Do not place an intact non-deployed airbag face down on a hard surface, the airbag propels into the air if accidentally deployed. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

      NOTE:

      Check the connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.

    4. Connect the (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and the (special tool #8443-1, Jumpers, 2 Pin) to the Left Seat Airbag connector.
      WARNING:

      Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    5. Using the scan tool, read the active ORC DTCs.

      Does the scan tool display: B1C28-LEFT SIDE SEAT THORAX SQUIB 1 HIGH?

      Yes 

      WARNING:

      Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

      • Replace the Seat Airbag Jumper Wire Harness in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      WARNING:

      Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
