Pump, Water: Removal: 3.6L

The water pump on 3.6L engines is bolted directly to the engine timing chain case cover.

1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the air cleaner body. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL .
   WARNING:

   Constant tension hose clamps are used on most cooling system hoses. When removing or installing, use only tools designed for servicing this type of clamp. Always wear safety glasses when servicing constant tension clamps.

   CAUTION:

   A number or letter is stamped into the tongue of constant tension clamps. If replacement is necessary, use only an original equipment clamp with matching number or letter.

3. Remove the bolts (2, 4) the coolant bottle assembly (1).

4. Using a suitable jack, support the engine.
5. Remove the bolts (1, 2) and the right engine mount (4).
6. Remove the bolts and the engine mounting block from the water pump.
7. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
   CAUTION:

   Do not pry on the water pump at the timing chain case/cover. The machined surfaces may be damaged resulting in leaks.

8. Remove the lower engine cover.
9. Drain the cooling system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
10. Remove the right front tire and wheel assembly.
11. Remove the inner splash shield.

12. Remove the serpentine belt (7). Refer to BELT, SERPENTINE, REMOVAL .
13. Remove the bolt and the idler pulley (2).

14. Disconnect the A/C compressor wire harness connector.
15. Remove the bolts (1, 3) and the A/C compressor (2).

16. Remove the lower bypass hose and the lower radiator hose from the water pump (1) and position aside.
17. Remove the remainder ten water pump mounting bolts. Take notice to the four water pump bolts (2) that mount directly to the timing chain cover.
18. Remove the water pump (1) and discard the gasket
