Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Does the scan tool display this DTC as active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

      • Test complete, the condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  2. CHECK THE PCM FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT TO GROUND 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. For gas engines, disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
    3. For diesel engines equipped with the 68RFE Transmission, disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector.
    4. Turn the ignition on.
    5. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Does the scan tool display this DTC as active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

  3. CHECK THE TCM (AS69RC) FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT TO GROUND 
    NOTE:

    If the vehicle is not equipped with the AS69RC Transmission, proceed to the next test step.

    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the TCM C2 (AS69RC) harness connector.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Does the scan tool display this DTC as active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  4

      No 

      • Replace the Transmission Control Module (TCM) in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  4. CHECK THE TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR (TRS) (AS69RC) FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT TO GROUND 
    NOTE:

    If the vehicle is not equipped with the AS69RC Transmission, proceed to the next test step.

    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the TRS harness connector.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Does the scan tool display this DTC as active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  5

      No 

      • Replace the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  5. CHECK THE (F1) IGNITION OFF/RUN/START CONTROL OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the BCM A harness connector.
    3. Measure the resistance between ground and the (F1) Ignition Off/Run/Start Control Output circuit.

      Is the resistance above 10k Ohms?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Repair the short to ground in the (F1) Ignition Off/Run/Start Control Output circuit.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
