Clunking Noise During Acceleration

SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSE REPAIR
Clunk/snap noise during launch or shifting into drive or reverse.
  1. Loose hub nut.
  2. Damaged hub splines.
  1. Replace hub nut and properly tighten.
  2. Replace hub bearing and halfshaft.
Clunking noise at low speed. Severely worn or damaged tripod or CV joint. Replace halfshaft.
Rattle/clunk over bumps. Grease slung around undercarriage. Loss of lube in CV joint boots. Replace halfshaft.
