Vehicle Theft Alarm

The VTA is available in three different configurations for this vehicle: One configuration is designed for vehicles manufactured for sale in North America; while, the other two configurations are designed for vehicles manufactured for sale in markets outside of North America, also referred to as export markets within the context of this service information. All vehicles equipped with VTA are also equipped with the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system and the Sentry Key Immobilizer System (SKIS), regardless of their market destination.

The North American and export base version of the VTA system provide perimeter vehicle protection by monitoring the vehicle doors, the ignition switch, the liftgate, and the hood for vehicles built for certain markets where it is required equipment. On the premium export version it also monitors vehicle tilt and motion. If unauthorized vehicle use or tampering is detected, these systems respond by pulsing the vehicle horn. The premium export version will sound a siren. The siren is located in the left front corner on the radiator support. This produces an audible deterrent. Both of these systems will also flash certain exterior lamps which produces a visual deterrent.

The VTA includes the following major components, which are described in further detail elsewhere in this service information:

Door Ajar Switches - A door ajar switch is integral to the door latch mechanism of each front and rear door.
Hood Ajar Switch - A hood ajar switch is located in a mounting hole in the upper cross member of the Front End Module (FEM) carrier near the right fender ledge of vehicles built for sale in certain export markets where it is required. This same switch is also used for domestic vehicles equipped with the optional remote start system.
Liftgate Ajar Switch - A liftgate ajar switch is integral to the latch for the liftgate in the vehicle. Refer to LATCH, LIFTGATE, REMOVAL .
Security Indicator - A security indicator is integral to the Instrument Cluster (IC) (also known as the Common Instrument Cluster/CIC). Refer to DESCRIPTION .
Intrusion Module - On the premium export vehicles an Intrusion Module is used to sense any interior movement. It is sometimes referred to as an Intrusion Transceiver Module (ITM). On this vehicle it is mounted on the headliner substrate near the 2nd row overhead lamp. There are two intrusion sensors. The front sensor is in the second row overhead lamp housing and the rear sensor is in the third row overhead lamp housing. Refer to MODULE, INTRUSION, DESCRIPTION .
