Upper Oil Pan

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove bolts and the oil level indicator tube.
  3. Remove the front skid plate. Refer to PLATE, SKID, FRONT, REMOVAL .
  4. Remove the front suspension skid plate. Refer to PLATE, SKID, FRONT SUSPENSION, REMOVAL
  5. Remove bolt securing the power steering supply line.
  6. Remove the rear A/C compressor mounting bolt.
  7. Lower the vehicle.

  8. Remove the engine cover (1).
  9. Remove air cleaner body. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL  .

  10. Remove the serpentine belt (2). Refer to BELT, SERPENTINE, REMOVAL .

  11. Disconnect the A/C clutch wire harness connector (1).
  12. Support the A/C compressor, remove the nut (4), stud (3), and bolt (2) that secures the A/C compressor to the bracket and position aside the compressor.
  13. Remove the upper oil dip stick tube bolt.

  14. Remove the lower oil pan. Refer to PAN, OIL, REMOVAL  .
  15. If equipped with AWD, remove the front axle (1). Refer to REMOVAL .

  16. Remove the steering gear (1). Refer to GEAR, REMOVAL .

  17. Remove the four transmission-to-oil pan bolts.
  18. Remove bolts securing the transmission cooler liner to oil pan.
  19. Remove bolts and position aside the EHPS pump.
  20. Detach the starter wire harness to upper oil pan.
  21. Disconnect the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP) wire harness connector (1).

  22. Remove bolts attaching the CKP harness connector bracket to oil pan.

  23. Remove the oil pump pick-up tube bolt (2).
  24. Remove bolts (1) and the upper oil pan (3).
  25. Remove and discard gasket (4).
