Single CARDAN Universal Joints
NOTE:
This procedure describes a propeller shaft equipped a cardan joint in the tube yoke. For propeller shafts equipped with a companion/slip yoke, repeat the steps to remove the remaining cardan joint.
- Apply (EP) N.L.G.I. Grade 1 or 2 grease to inside of yoke bores.
- Position cross (1) in yoke (2) with lube fitting pointing up, if equipped.
- Place a bearing cap (1) over the cross end (2) and align cap with yoke bore.
- Press bearing cap into the yoke bore enough to clear snap ring groove.
- Repeat step 3 and step 4 to install the opposite bearing cap.NOTE: If joint is stiff or binding, strike the yoke with a soft hammer to seat the needle bearings.
- Add grease to lube fitting, if equipped.
