Removal - Camshafts

Disconnect negative battery cable.
Remove engine cover and bracket. Refer to ENGINE COVER .
Drain cooling system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
Remove cooling fan and fan drive viscous clutch assembly. Refer to RADIATOR - FAN - VISCOUS .
Remove accessory drive belt (Refer to COOLING/ACCESSORY DRIVE/DRIVE BELTS - REMOVAL) .
Remove cooling fan support (Refer to COOLING/ENGINE/RADIATOR FAN - REMOVAL) .
Rotate the engine to 90 degrees ATDC (Refer to ENGINE/VALVE TIMING - STANDARD PROCEDURE) .
Remove vibration damper.
Remove generator (Refer to ELECTRICAL/CHARGING/GENERATOR - REMOVAL) .
CAUTION: Before removing the cylinder head cover/intake manifold or timing belt the engine must rotated to the 90° ATDC, or the 3 O'clock position. Failure to do so could result in valve and/or piston damage during reassembly. (Refer to ENGINE/VALVE TIMING - STANDARD PROCEDURE) .
Remove timing belt outer cover (Refer to ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/TIMING BELT/CHAIN COVER(S) - REMOVAL) .
Remove timing belt (Refer to ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/TIMING BELT/CHAIN AND SPROCKETS - REMOVAL) .
Remove timing belt inner cover (Refer to ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/TIMING BELT/CHAIN COVER(S) - REMOVAL) .
Remove cylinder head cover/intake manifold (Refer to ENGINE/CYLINDER HEAD/CYLINDER HEAD COVER(S) - REMOVAL) .
With cylinder head cover/intake manifold on work bench, remove plugs at rear of cylinder head cover/intake manifold.
Remove camshaft oil seals. See Fig 1.
Remove snap ring and thrust washer from camshaft. See Fig 1.
Slide camshaft through access hole at rear of cylinder head cover/intake manifold.
