Rear Axle - 8 1/4: Seal-Pinion: Removal

- With vehicle in neutral, position vehicle on hoist.
- Mark a reference line (3) across the axle companion flange (2) and propeller shaft flange yoke (4). See Fig 1.
- Remove companion flange bolts and remove propeller shaft
- Remove wheel and tire assemblies.
- Remove brake calipers and rotors to prevent any drag.
1 - COMPANION FLANGE 2 - INCH POUND TORQUE WRENCH - Rotate companion flange three or four times and verify flange rotates smoothly.
- Measure rotating torque of the pinion (1) with a inch pound torque wrench (2) and record reading for installation reference. See Fig 2.
- Install bolts into two of the threaded holes in the companion flange 180° apart.
- Position Holder 6719 against the companion flange and install a bolt and washer into one of the remaining threaded holes. Tighten the bolts so the Holder 6719 is held to the flange.
- Remove the pinion nut and washer.

- Remove pinion seal with a seal pick.
