Section 506 (Rack & Pinion Power Steering System): Gear: Gear: Installation: Diesel

- Transfer the tie rod ends to the new steering gear (if needed).
- Install the steering gear (1) to the vehicle.
- Install the gear mounting bolts (5) to the front cradle. See Fig 1. Tighten the gear mounting bolts to 162 N.m (120 ft.lbs.)
- Install the power steering lines (2) to the gear (1). See Fig 1.
- Install the power steering pressure hose bracket (4). See Fig 1.
1 - LOWER COUPLER & PINCH BOLT 2 - HIGH PRESSURE HOSE 3 - RETURN HOSE 4 - RACK & PINION - Install the lower coupler pinch bolt (1) and slide the coupler on to the gear (4). See Fig 2.
- Install the tie rod end to the knuckle and tighten the nuts.
- Install the front axle. Refer to DIFFERENTIAL & DRIVELINE . .
- Install the lower control arms. (Refer to SUSPENSION/FRONT/LOWER CONTROL ARM - INSTALLATION) .
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. (Refer to TIRES/WHEELS/WHEELS - STANDARD PROCEDURE) .
- Install the skid plate (Refer to FRAME & BUMPERS/FRAME/FRONT SKID PLATE - INSTALLATION) .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Unlock the steering wheel.
- Fill the power steering fluid (Refer to STEERING/PUMP - STANDARD PROCEDURE) .
- Align the front end.
