Section 500 (2.4L Engine (Service Information)): Crankshaft: Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Jeep Liberty. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The crankshaft is made of nodular cast iron and includes five main bearing journals and four connecting rod journals. See Fig 1. The number three journal is the location for the thrust bearing. The mains and connecting rod journals have undercut fillet radiuses that are rolled for added strength. To optimize bearing loading, eight counterweights are used.
