Front Axle - 186FIA: Seal-Pinion: Removal

1 - PINION COMPANION FLANGE

2 - TORQUE WRENCH

With vehicle in neutral, position vehicle on hoist.
Remove brake calipers and rotors.
Remove propeller shaft.
Rotate pinion gear a minimum of ten times and verify the pinion rotates smoothly.
Record torque to rotate the pinion gear (1) with a inch pound torque wrench (2). See Fig 1.

1 - SPANNER WRENCH

2 - PINION COMPANION FLANGE
Using a short piece of pipe and Spanner Wrench 6958 (1) to hold the pinion companion flange (2) and remove the pinion nut. See Fig 2.

1 - SPANNER WRENCH

2 - REMOVER
Remove pinion companion flange with Remover C-452 (2) and Spanner Wrench 6958 (1). See Fig 3.
Pry pinion seal out with a seal pick.
