Removal & Installation

Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Place front wheels in straight-ahead position. Remove driver-side air bag module. See DUAL-STAGE DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE .
Remove steering wheel retaining nut. Using 2-jaw Puller (C-3894-A) or equivalent, locate each arm of puller into pocket cast in underside of steering wheel on each side of hub. Pull steering wheel from upper steering column shaft.
To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten steering wheel retaining nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . DO NOT connect negative battery cable at this time. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
