Removal & Installation

- Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Remove driver-side air bag module. See DUAL-STAGE DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE . Remove 4 mounting nuts securing upper and lower trim cover retainers to back of air bag housing. Remove trim cover retainers. See Fig 1 .
- Remove horn switch ground wire eyelet from upper air bag housing stud. Disengage horn switch feed wire connector retainer from mounting hole in upper trim cover retainer. Disengage 4 trim cover locking blocks from lip around outside edge of air bag housing and remove housing from cover.NOTE: If horn switch and tray have been removed from sewn pouch in air bag cushion strap, ensure they are reinstalled with horn switch feed and ground wires properly oriented. See Fig 1 .
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure each locking block is fully engaged on lip of air bag housing and tabs on trim cover retainers are engaged in slots. See Fig 2 . Tighten trim cover retainer mounting nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . DO NOT connect negative battery cable at this time. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
